Homelessness and Children with Disabilities: The Urgent Need for Support

As a pediatric therapy practice, AMP PEDIATRIC THERAPY sees firsthand the devastating impact that homelessness can have on children, especially those with disabilities. Unfortunately, the homelessness situation in Central Florida has been on the rise in recent years, and a significant contributor to this trend has been the increase in rent prices.

Recently Alex and Alex, the owners of AMP PEDIATRIC THERAPY, were given an official tour of Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida by Angel Greene, the Director Of Operation Administration. She mentioned that the high rent cost makes it increasingly difficult for low-income families to find stable housing. This is particularly true for those with children with disabilities, as they often require additional support and resources that can be difficult to come by in times of financial strain. The compounding impact of homelessness on these children can be severe, leading to disruptions in therapy and educational services and increased risks for physical and mental health problems.

At AMP PEDIATRIC THERAPY, we believe every child deserves a safe and stable home, regardless of their abilities. We are committed to working with our community partners to find ways to address the homelessness crisis in Central Florida and to support families affected by this issue.

One way we can do this is by providing therapy services to children and families experiencing homelessness. Additionally, we work with local organizations like Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida to advocate for policy changes that would make housing more affordable for low-income families.

Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Central Florida. They provide emergency shelter, meals, case management, and job training. They also address underlying causes of homelessness, such as poverty and lack of affordable housing, by providing financial assistance and employment opportunities, as well as advocating for policy changes. The organization's services aim to empower individuals and families to take control of their lives and overcome the barriers that have led to their homelessness, resulting in many people finding and maintaining stable housing, improving job skills, and gaining self-sufficiency to build a better future.

We understand that the issue of homelessness is complex and that there is no easy solution. However, by working together and committing to making a difference, we can help to ensure that all children in Central Florida have access to the safe and stable homes they deserve.

We encourage everyone to join us in this effort by supporting organizations like Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida that help the homeless, volunteering in homeless shelters, and supporting policy changes that promote affordable housing.

Together, we can make a difference for the children and families with the greatest need in our community, families struggling to find a place to call home while also having the added stress of having children with disabilities that need unique resources that families with healthy children would never think about.
